How to Be Backyard Heroes 
for Nature’s Critters During Sudden Winter Cold

When winter temperatures drop suddenly, many animals struggle to find food, warmth, and shelter. Here’s how you can help your local wildlife become a backyard hero.
Make a brush pile with tree trimmings.
Place to snuggle nature's blankets
Scatter a few unsalted nuts or acorns under leaves. This helps support natural foraging behaviors. |Turn it into a quiet game where you hide food if you were a squirrel.
Leave the leaves lesson
Choose one area to not clean up, leave seed heads and dried plants, then use Backyard Nature Journal January edition, draw winter trees, birds, animals, tracks, and weather changes, and write down why it helps.
Install a toad house or leave a corner of your yard “wild. 
Call it the wild corner and decorate a fun sign for just such a winter house.  
A place for furry friends.
 Shhhhh! Someone's napping. 
Critter Cozy Club- Do not disturb winter resting.
Built with love and sticks.
Check sheds and garages before closing doors—animals might seek warmth inside.
By making a few simple adjustments, you can help birds, mammals, and insects survive sudden cold snaps and thrive in your backyard all winter long.
